If we were to attempt to scale Mt. Everest it would require a substantial support system. Even after arriving at base camp we would still have four more camps to reach before our final ascent. You could say that deputation is like starting out from the third camp. We have come a long way already but we have one more stage to pass before we can finally begin the summit. As believers our final “summit” is eternity, and our focus must be to use our earthly abilities and opportunities for God’s glory in what time we have now.
These first three months of part time deputation have been an exercise in transitions. We have had some wonderful services and many encouraging personal meetings with pastors, making us all the more anxious to be fully committed to the ministry which God has called us. At the same time I still had full time work responsibilities to fulfill, and that was a challenge to balance. It’s not so different though from our “normal” Christian calling. All believers are to be about Kingdom business while still taking care of the day to day affairs that demand so much time and effort. It is only God’s grace that enables us to live Gospel focused lives, whether as missionary appointees or believers in a secular workplace.
